What is the programme’s wider context?
The DutchDFA programme is launched in a rapidly changing world. More than ever before, entire regions and cities are dependent on developments that occur far beyond their own borders. The current global credit crunch and its effects are as much a signal as the causes and effects of climate change. Climate change influences our environment, our food supplies, our economies and our safety. Together with globalisation, sustainable development is currently our biggest challenge. Realising the necessary economic and ecological balance requires ongoing international collaboration and exchange of information.
