Shanghai International Creative Industry Week (SICIW) held from 15-21 Oct 2009 is highly regarded internationally as a comprehensive platform to promote creative industries. SICIW is a city-sponsored and endorsed event that will be a week-long celebration of all things design from architecture, interiors, fashion to graphic design. SICIW has been held annually since 2005 and has attracted over 400,000 visitors, of which 60 per cent have been industry professionals, government officials and VIP guests. Exhibitors from more than 30 countries have showcased their products during this week long expo. It has achieved acclaim and the status as one of Shanghai's most influential creative events.

 

The exhibition theme "Architecture & Urban Space" makes room for a broad view on Dutch Design. Thus The Netherlands present themselves from architecture, urbanism and landscape architecture, via signage and playground equipment, to public furniture and lighting.

Parallel to the event the 100% Design Shanghai fair will take place. (entry form). The Dutch graphic design exhibition Social Energy, showcasing more than 300 projects from designers such as Irma Boom, Karel Martens, Lust, Mooren & van der Velden, Studio Dumbar is also held simultaniously.

Last year KOW was awarded as one of Shanghai’s most distinguished creative companies, based on the work of KOW’s Shanghai office, its support to the Creative Week and its contribution to make Shanghai an international center for design. Read last years report at design.nl

 

DutchDFA will coordinate Dutch participation in the Shanghai International Creative Industry Week. We will organise a media campaign and various events (including lectures, network lunches, parties etc.) supporting and highlighting the Dutch presence. Simultaneously several Chinese-Dutch education projects will take place. This SICIW event will also mark the start of an incubator programme for Dutch designers in Shanghai.
